Noun -is a person place or a thing

There are three types of nouns common nouns, pronouns, and proper nouns.

A common noun is any person,place or thing
Ex) The black bats flew rapidly over the clock tower. Common Nouns : bats, clock tower.

A proper noun is a specific person,place or a thing 
Ex)Sally dressed as Frankenstein for Halloween while Joe was a ghost.
Proper Nouns: Sally, Frankenstein, Joe.

Pronouns: takes the place of a noun or nouns.
Ex) Mom and dad decorated the house for Halloween, they did it together.
Pronouns:they,it.


Adjectives- words that describe a noun or pronoun.
Ex) The many trick -or- treaters ran away from the dark and haunted forest.
Adjectives: many, dark, haunted.


Verbs - a word that tells what the subject of the sentence is or does.
Action Verbs-tells what the subject does.
Ex) The wolves howl loudly at any trick-or-treaters.
Action Verbs: howl


Linking verbs-words that link or join the subject with a word or words in the
predicate that tells what the subject is or like.
Ex)The children were warned that they would become ghosts if they saw the wicked witch appear.
Linking verbs; become,were,appear.

Adverbs-tell how when or where an action happens.
Ex) The parents quietly snuck up on the kids to really scare them.
Adverbs: quietly,really.

Comparative adverbs-compare two actions; adds -er to most adverbs to make them comparative; if ends in -ly use more
instead of -er.
Ex) The sky was getting clearer as the trick - or - treaters arrived later than expected.
Comparative Adverbs: clearer, later.

Superlative Adverbs- compare 3 or more actions. adds -est to make them superlative; if ends in -ly use most.
Ex) Sarah's costume was good, Joe's was better, but Gloria's witch costume was the best.
Superlative Adverbs: good,better,best.

Prepositions-a preposition shows a relationship between a noun or pronoun and another word in the sentence.
Ex) Above the haunted house the ghosts swooped below to terrify the trick - or - treaters underneath.
Prepositions: above,below, underneath.

Conjunctions- words used to join words, phrases, or sentences.
Ex) Paul, Gary, and Jessica had the choice to be a bat, a werewolf, or a dog.
Conjunctions: and,or. (but is also a conjunction.)

Interjections- words or phrases that expresses strong emotion or surprise. Always end with an exclamation mark.(!)
Ex) "Boo!" The ghost shouted as the owls hooted. " Hoot, hoot!"
Interjections: Boo; hoot,hoot.
